Hey human,

The heatwave is coming for those of us in the UK so why not cool off with a drink and catch-up withe latest AI updates and news. And there are some updates!

📚 AI+education news

  • Gemini’s Guided Learning > Hot on the heels of Open AI’s Study and Learn feature that was announced last week, Google is building their own ‘learning’ features into Gemini built on a custom model for learning called ‘LearnLM’. According to the linked article, this model will be able to generate and use multimedia elements such images, diagrams, videos and interactive quizzes

  • Genie 3 > Possibly the more exciting announcement from Google. Genie 3 is a new AI model that lets you create game-like 3D worlds. However, in these worlds you would be able to take actions as well as freely move around the world, using arrow key for example. It is not available to the public yet, and when it does it is unlikely that educators will be able to use it for free, but it gives a look into the future. The possibilities for world building in history or exploring precise geographical areas from the classroom to support learning are huge.

🌍 Wider AI updates

  • ChatGPT5 > OpenAI finally announced their new all-in-one model, ChatGPT 5. Now it is fair to say that there has been some controversy over the launch. OpenAI have already had to enable the selection of additional models and increase the free usage to various paid plans. Free users are limited to 10 messages per hour on the full ChatGPT 5 before it switches to the ‘mini’ version, so prompt carefully!

  • Create a storybook about > Another announcement from Google. Click on the link above and use your imagination to create a simple storybook about a precise niche and topic you or your pupils/own children may be interested in. You can change details about the storybook after it has been generated, so you do not need to get everything right first time around and you can provide photos if you wish. We are off on holiday, so here’s a storybook about that.

  • Our Day Out: Stuck for ideas over this summer? Why not let an AI tool plan a day out for you.

Plan a full day out for me, but first ask me all the questions you need so it can be fully tailored. Ask about: (1) how many people are going and their ages, including any accessibility needs; (2) where the day starts, how far we’re willing to travel, and preferred transport; (3) total budget in my currency and whether it should include food/travel; (4) activity interests (sightseeing, museums, nature, theme parks, food, shopping, sports) and anything to avoid; (5) whether we want indoor, outdoor, or a mix; (6) our planned start and end times and whether we want a relaxed or packed pace; (7) dietary requirements and whether to include meal stops or picnics; (8) whether it’s for a special occasion; (9) preference for hidden gems or popular attractions; and (10) whether to include photo spots or scenic views. Once I’ve answered, create a complete itinerary with timings, travel suggestions, activity costs, and booking links if possible.”

Till next week.
