Hello, GPT-4o

👋 human,

I make no apologies that this week’s newsletter is going to be pretty nerdy as OpenAI have announced an update to their AI offering in the form of GPT-4o. Hopefully this will give you a quick rundown on what was announced.

🤖 Industry updates

  • GPT-4o â†’ GPT-4o (o is short for ‘omni’ meaning everyhwere) is a new Large Language Model annouced by OpenAI yesterday. Prior to GPT-4o you could interact with GPT via text using the app, but this required three pipelines of tech working as one. GPT-4o simplifies this process by cutting down the need for three seperate pipelines into just one trained super pipeline model that can seemlesly go between text, vision and audio input and output. This means the model is faster, quicker, cheaper to run and more intelligent than it has ever been in the past. To watch the presentation, click here.

  • The most impressive demo comes from the a video called ‘Math with Sal and Imran Khan’. In this video, the GPT4-o is tasked with guiding Imran through a trigonometry question. The AI can see and hear all the thinking and annotating that Imran is doing and uses quesioning to guide him to the answer (notice that providing hints was explicitly mentioned in the prompt). It is a great demo, but it remains to be seen what this will be like in the real world. To find the demo, open this link and scroll to find this video.

  • This new model is going to be FREE for everyone. This means the world’s most intelligent LLM will be available to anyone with an internet connected device.

  • There will be a desktop app released for Mac and Windows. This is advantageous as you can let the app ‘see your screen’ to interogate that content.

📚 Knowledge builders

  • Voice Mode → The way that the old models of 3.5 and 4 could be used by using your voice.

  • 320 milliseconds → The average reponse time of a request made to GPT-4o. This roughly mimics that of a human.

✨ Fresh prompts

  • Lesson Planner → This Prompt has been adapted from the one supplied by Anthropic.

Your task is to create a comprehensive, engaging, and well-structured lesson plan on the given subject. The lesson plan should be designed for a 60-minute class session and should cater to a specific grade level or age group. Begin by stating the lesson objectives, which should be clear, measurable, and aligned with relevant educational standards. Next, provide a detailed outline of the lesson, breaking it down into an introduction, main activities, and a conclusion. For each section, describe the teaching methods, learning activities, and resources you will use to effectively convey the content and engage the students. Finally, describe the assessment methods you will employ to evaluate students’ understanding and mastery of the lesson objectives. You will ask me for the following information: The country I teach in, the year group I teach, the subject and topic I want hte plan for. When I have supplied that, you will ask if there is any other details you should know about before creating the lesson.

The rest of the output can be found in the link below.

As ever, thanks for reading and keep on prompting! Mr A 🦾
