Let there be Lumiere!
π human, can you believe that we are nearly at half-term already? This week, we have a new Text-to-Video model and a serious update on hoe the Department for Education in England is planning on making sure teachers can benefit from AI.
A quick website update, the finishing touches to filtering are being worked on as we speak. Got an idea for a tag for a prompt? Let us know by replying to this email.
Knowledge builders π
Lumiere β A new Text-to-Video model from Google. This could be a really useful resource to encourage subject-verb relationship for simple sentences by providing simple videos for pupils to write about.
Embedding Models β An embedding is a sequence of numbers that represents the concepts within content such as natural language or code. Embeddings make it easy for machine learning models and other algorithms to understand the relationships between content and to perform tasks like clustering or retrieval. Think of this as a universal language translator, that can translate from one language to another on the fly.
Industry updates π€
UK Government plans to ensure schools benefit from AI β The minister responsible for AI in education, Barrenness Barron, released a new report today. Some of the highlights include:
The use of GenAI in education has increased rapidly in the UK, with 42% of teachers and 74% of online 16-24 year olds using it as of November 2023.
GenAI can benefit students by increasing their engagement and supporting their diverse needs, but it can also enable academic malpractice and over-reliance on AI-generated content.
GenAI adoption in education faces barriers such as lack of knowledge, skills, infrastructure, and positive perception among teachers, as well as ethical, safety, and data privacy issues.
There is a need for government support to ensure safe and effective use of GenAI in education, as well as a long-term strategy that is based on robust evidence and aligned with good pedagogy.
Educators are using GenAI to create lesson resources, plan lessons, and streamline administrative processes, which can save them time and improve their teaching effectiveness.
Fresh prompts β¨
Foundation level: Spellings for certain sounds β Here is one to support the teaching of phonics. Practice is incredibly important, so the more words you have at your fingertips that contain the sound and/or spelling that you are working on the better. This simple prompt is heavily customisable depending on what you need. Here is the deep structure: List [number of words] that contain the sound [sound - place the sound in //] spelled [spelling for sound - you can list as many as you want, but the spelling needs to be within <>] These should have a maximum of [number of syllables] only. Write these under column headers for each different spelling. Use Microsoft Co-Pilot.
List as many words as you can that contain the sound /ai/ spelled <ay> and <eigh>. These should have a maximum of 2 syllables only. Write these under column headers for each different spelling.
Here is the output.
Expert Level: Co-pilot in Office β Not a prompt, but an excellent tutorial as to how you can get the most out of Copilot within the Office suite of apps to support your workflows. You will need access to CoPilot Pro to use Copilot in office. Some highlights include getting data across all your applications, asking Copilot to create outlines of presentations and construct excel formulas just by asking.
